CULTURE
When Lord Buddha visited Sri Lanka for the 3rd time, with many Rahathun, God Saman requested Lord Buddha to offer something sacred for them to worship in the absence of Lord Buddha. In return, with sympathy and to establish Buddhism in Sri Lanka, Lord Buddha then printed the Sacred Footprint on top of Samanala Mountain and, now it is called Sri Pada Mountain because of the footprint. People believe that If you make a good wish on top of the mountain it will become a reality. Yes, it became true for me. Experiment yourselves. The illuminating lights show the trekking journey to the top of the Footprint.

IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO WALK UP TO THE TOP OF SRI PADA MOUNTAIN TO OBSERVE THE FOOTPRINT OF LORD BUDDHA, THEN PLAN YOUR HOLIDAY FROM DECEMBER TO MAY IN SRI LANKA. THE LAST DAY YOU CAN GO THERE IS BEFORE THE VESAK POYADAY EVERY YEAR (The Image to the right show the Sri Pada Mountain).
Colourful Sri Lankan Culture
The culture in Sri Lanka is as colourful as it can be. With various celebrations, bright clothes, ancient stories and a diverse local lifestyle. The monks in the temples and the way they live can be experienced if you get an opportunity to meditate with them. Immerse yourself in the life of Sri Lanka and its charming friendly residents. Kandy Dalada-Perahera has been there for the last 175 years.
The Kandy Dalada-Perahera, also known as the Kandy Esala (Esala means the Month of July) Perahera, is a festival in Sri Lanka that pays homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha and commemorates the day the relic arrived in the country. However, Perahera is scheduled towards the end of July every year.
The origins of Kandyan dance can be traced back centuries, steeped in the rituals and customs of the Kandyan kingdom. Over time, it has evolved into a vibrant art form, blending elements of Hindu, Buddhist, and indigenous folklore to create a unique and compelling expression of Sri Lankan culture.
As you witness the performers gracefully move to the rhythm of traditional drumbeats and melodic tunes, you'll be drawn into a world of storytelling and symbolism. Each gesture, each movement, carries with it layers of meaning, reflecting the complex tapestry of Sri Lankan history and mythology. As of today, even the brides perform Kandyn dancing at their weddings exclusively, which is very nice to see. Thanks to Viranki Wasana for their permission to include this image.
