CULTURE

When Lord Buddha visited Sri Lanka for the 3rd time, with many Rahathun, God Saman requested Lord Buddha to offer something sacred for them to worship in the absence of Lord Buddha. In return, with sympathy to establish Buddhism in Sri Lanka, Lord Buddha then printed the Sacred Footprint on top of Samanala Mountain and, now it is called Sri Pada Mountain because of the footprint. People believe that If you make a good wish on top of the mountain it will become a reality. Yes, it became true for me. Experiment yourselves. The illuminating lights show the trekking journey to the top of Sri Pada Mountain with the Footprint. It will take around 8-10 hours or sometimes more to walk to the top. In the evening around 5.30 pm is the best time to start your journey. December to May is the best time to go there. It is enjoyable and safe to go there as many devotees walk during that time with smiling faces and chanting "chakra." Please think about your wish and start your journey. Do not disclose your wish to anyone until it realise in the future.

Relax on the picturesque beaches, visit numerous world-famous Temples, UNESCO Heritage sites, Spas and reside in the breathtaking resorts this island can offer – and forget all your worries.

The origins of Kandyan dance can be traced back centuries, steeped in the rituals and customs of the Kandyan kingdom. Over time, it has evolved into a vibrant art form, blending elements of Hindu, Buddhist, and indigenous folklore to create a unique and compelling expression of Sri Lankan culture.

As you witness the performers gracefully move to the rhythm of traditional drumbeats and melodic tunes, you'll be drawn into a world of storytelling and symbolism. Each gesture, each movement, carries with it layers of meaning, reflecting the complex tapestry of Sri Lankan history and mythology. As of today, even the brides perform Kandyan dancing at their weddings exclusively, which is very nice to see.
